Yahtzee scoring at a glance
- Upper section: add up only the dice showing that number.
- Score 63 or more in the upper section for a 35-point bonus.
- Three or four of a kind: the total of all five dice.
- Full house 25, small straight 30, large straight 40, Yahtzee 50, chance is all five dice.
- Every Yahtzee after the first is worth an extra 100 points.
Where games are won
The 35-point upper bonus decides most close games: three of each number gets you exactly 63. If you fall behind there, the straights and a Yahtzee have to make up the gap. Taking a zero early on a category you are unlikely to fill is usually better than wasting a good roll.
Common questions
- What is a good Yahtzee score?
- Anything over 200 is a solid game. Around 250 with the bonus and a Yahtzee is strong, and scores over 300 are rare.
- Can you score a second Yahtzee?
- Yes. Once the Yahtzee box is filled with 50, each further Yahtzee adds a 100-point bonus and can also be used as a joker in another category.
