Golf Solitaire — a round in two minutes

Golf is the quickest Solitaire on the site. Thirty-five cards sit in seven short columns, and you clear them onto a single waste pile one rank at a time. Rounds are short enough that a bad deal costs you nothing.

How to play a card

Only the card at the foot of a column can move, and only when it is one rank above or below the waste card. Suits are irrelevant from start to finish.

Kings and Aces

This version wraps the sequence, so a King plays onto an Ace and an Ace onto a King. That single rule turns a lot of dead positions into long clearing chains.

The stock

When nothing fits, turn a new card from the stock. Seventeen stock cards is all you get; run out with tableau cards left and the hole is over.

Tips that actually help

  • Check what a card exposes before you take it — depth beats a quick clear.
  • Work the deepest columns down first; one long leftover column is what usually loses.
  • When two cards fit, take the one that opens a rank you can already see elsewhere.
  • Count the stock: each turn spent is one fewer chance to restart a chain.

Common questions

How long does a round take?
Usually one to three minutes, which is why Golf is the go-to for a short break.
Can I move cards between columns?
No. In Golf every card goes to the waste pile; columns are never rebuilt.
What counts as a good result?
Clearing all thirty-five cards wins. Short of that, the fewer cards left on the green the better.
