Play Blackjack (play chips)

The table rules

Six decks, dealer stands on soft seventeen, blackjack pays three to two, and you can double, split and take insurance. Those rules are what basic strategy is built on.

Basic strategy in one paragraph

Always split Aces and eights, never split tens or fives, double eleven against anything but an Ace, and stand on hard seventeen or more. Most of the rest follows from the dealer's upcard.

Why practise with play chips

Strategy only sticks when you play enough hands to make it automatic. Play chips let you run hundreds of hands and make mistakes that cost nothing.

Tips that actually help

  • Insurance is a losing bet without card counting — skip it.
  • Play the dealer's upcard, not a hunch about the next card.
  • Split eights even against a ten; two eights beat a sixteen.
  • Stand on twelve through sixteen when the dealer shows two through six.
