Chess against the computer

A full chess board with a computer opponent, legal-move checking and all the special rules handled: castling, en passant, promotion, stalemate and threefold repetition.

Play Chess

Starting out

You play White and move first. Tap a piece to see every legal square it can reach, then tap the destination — illegal moves are simply not offered.

The special rules

Castling, en passant capture and pawn promotion are all built in, as are the draw conditions. You never have to remember whether a move is allowed.

Improving

Control the centre, develop pieces before attacking, and castle early. Most losses at club level come from leaving a piece undefended rather than from deep strategy.

Tips that actually help

  • Develop knights and bishops before moving the same piece twice.
  • Castle early unless there is a concrete reason not to.
  • Before every move, check what your opponent's last move threatened.
  • Trade pieces when you are ahead in material, not when you are behind.

Common questions

Do I need an account to play chess here?
No. The board and your local results work without signing up.
Does it enforce all the rules?
Yes, including castling, en passant, promotion, check, checkmate and the standard draw conditions.
Can I play on a phone?
Yes. The board scales to phone screens with tap-to-move.
