How to play Scorpion Solitaire

Scorpion is a one-deck relative of Spider Solitaire. Like Spider you build King-to-Ace runs of one suit, but you can move any face-up card together with everything stacked on top of it.

Setup

Deal 49 cards into seven columns of seven. In the first four columns the top three cards are face down; everything else is face up. The last three cards are the stock.

Moving cards

Any face-up card can move onto the next-higher card of the same suit — and every card on top of it moves too, in any order. Only a King (with its pile) can go into an empty column.

The stock

When you are stuck, deal the three stock cards — one onto each of the first three columns. You can only do this once.

Winning

Win by building four complete columns, each running King down to Ace in one suit.

Tips from the table

  • Free the face-down cards in the first four columns as early as possible.
  • Empty columns are precious — save them for a King that frees a buried card.
  • Deal the stock only when you truly have nothing else; it can bury the card you need.
