Melds
A set is three or four cards of the same rank. A run is three or more consecutive cards in the same suit. Every card you meld no longer counts against you.
Gin Rummy is a fast two-player card game about building melds and minimising the deadwood you're stuck holding. First to 100 points across as many hands as it takes wins the match.
A set is three or four cards of the same rank. A run is three or more consecutive cards in the same suit. Every card you meld no longer counts against you.
Draw one card — either the top of the stock or the top of the discard pile — then discard one card from your hand of 11 back down to 10.
If your unmelded deadwood totals 10 or less, you may knock instead of discarding normally. Going out with 0 deadwood is a gin, worth a 25-point bonus.
When your opponent knocks (but doesn't gin), you may lay any of your own deadwood cards off onto their melds, shrinking your deadwood before scoring.
Aces count 1, face cards count 10, and every other card counts its number. Knock with 10 deadwood or less and score the difference between the two deadwood totals. Gin — zero deadwood — adds a 25-point bonus and the opponent cannot lay off. An undercut, where the defender ends level or lower, scores them the difference plus 25.
Games run to 100 points. At the end, the winner adds 100 for the game, 25 per hand won as a box bonus, and doubles everything if the loser never scored — a shutout, or schneider.
Oklahoma Gin sets the knock limit to the value of the first upcard, so an ace means only gin can go out. Hollywood Gin scores three games at once. Straight Gin removes knocking entirely: you must reach gin to go out.
